Yesterday I finished up all the text effects for the dialogue. I had no idea how involved it would be to make text fade into view as opposed to just tick across the screen.

Most of the other tutorials are about movement and collisions and rendering large scale maps. I think I'll have an advantage here with the majority of the scene being stationary. Backgrounds won't move, just change with the scenes as needed.

Tonight's task is mapping text to characters and making sure the text and character sprite changes accordingly. The tutorial I'm using is a static band of text, which I think will be fine for the game. I thought of having chat bubbles like in a comic book but at my level I have to remind myself to keep everything as simple as I can if I have a chance at finishing this thing.

It's very easy to come up with grand ideas but I have to remember to simplify what I can when I can.
