Hello World

I'll start this post off with the obvious: I've never made a game before.

I've tried to do all manner of other things. Making a game is not one of them.

I have a couple of decades of xp in graphic design, and a few in web development and writing. Luckily I didn't learn things like Javascript or React, no, I was working with .NET which means my minimal xp in software development lies in C#.

A gear starts turning.

So before trying to do web I was a die hard Photoshop/Illustrator designer who worked with vector graphics for print - I make a mean logo. Making the graphics for the game will be the easy part in this whole endeavor.

A second gear starts turning

I started writing fiction several years ago for fun, self published one terrible book, and submitted to a few magazines. I currently run the Y2K Quarterly, which is a late 90's - early 2000's themed literary magazine that is coming up on it's 4th issue.

A third gear joins the machine

Now, just because I have been playing games since 1989 doesn't mean I am any good at them. My favorites are easy, story driven games that have minimal twitch reaction FPS visuals or high intensity. Skyrim and Mass Effect are the limit of my 3D open world abilities.

A few years ago I discovered a game called Coffee Talk where you play a barista who makes drinks for folks in a late night diner. The fun part of this game is the same reason Mass Effect is fun, the character dialog interactions - your player choices - change the outcome or response by the npcs. There is no fighting and, like a visual novel, is story driven.

A final gear engages

So here I am, setting up a little blog to document my development process for an Interactive Fiction game. Let's see how this turns out.
